Treatment of Slaves: Housing

                 According to abolitionist Theodore Dwight Weld, Lemuel Sapington had been born in Maryland and was a slave trader in southern Virginia. He had since given up the slave trading business and moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

                 The descriptions generally given of negro quarters, are correct; the quarters are without floors, and not sufficient to keep off the inclemency of the weather; they are uncomfortable both in summer and winter.
