    Southampton county to wit

     

                      I Alexander P. Peete do hereby certify that I was in pursuit of the insurgents in this county on the 22 last August and there a negro man slave Alfred the property of Levi Waller was soon overtaken and the party not having an opportunity to secure him otherwise he was disabled by cutting the longer tendon just above the heel in each leg in which situation I left him. I suppose he was about 30 yr. of age. He was also a Blacksmith.
